Karen Leigh Hopkins, who wrote and directed Katie Holmes comedy “Miss Meadows,” has come on board to adapt “Mourning Glory” for Grey Eagle Films.

“Mourning Glory” was written by Warren Adler in 2001 as a black comedy about a recently unemployed single mother seeking a rich husband by attending the funerals of wealthy widowers and posing as a friend of the deceased.

Hopkins’ writing credits include “Stepmom,” “Because I Said So” and the TV movie “Searching for David’s Heart,” which won the Humanitas Award. Grey Eagle CEO Jonathan Adler approached her after seeing “Miss Meadows” at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Variety reported in June that Grey Eagle was developing “The War of the Roses: The Children” with David Permut of Permut Presentations and a screenplay by Alex McAulay, based on the Warren Adler novel.

It’s also developing Warren Adler and James C. Humes’ “Target Churchill,” co-developed by Solution Entertainment Group; and “Capitol Crimes,” a TV series based on Warren Adler’s Fiona Fitzgerald mystery series, co-developed by Sennet Entertainment with Eric Overmyer as showrunner.
