Treme’s Eric Overmyer Board Political Drama Series ‘Capitol Crimes’ Adapted From Warren Adler Novels
EXCLUSIVE: Eric Overmyer (Treme, Boardwalk Empire) has come aboard as showrunner on the scripted series Capitol Crimes, currently in development by Mark Sennet Entertainment Inc. and Grey Eagle Films. The politically charged project is adapted from the seven-novel Fiona FitzGerald Mystery series by author Warren Adler (The War Of The Roses, Random Hearts), about a female homicide detective and senator’s daughter who penetrates the most prestigious D.C. circles solving high-profile murders. Mark Sennet, Brian Gary, Adler’s son Jonathan Robert Adler and Stephen Greenwald are executive producers on the series, which has also added Craig Sheftell as co-exec producers.
Sennet last year partnered with Allied Film & TV on a deal to develop longform and limited series scripted television programs as well as 4-6 feature films annually. The company previously produced Stephen King’s limited series Bag Of Bones for A&E, Desperation for ABC, and Touch The Top Of The World for A&E. Grey Eagle Films’ Adler and Greenwald obtained rights to Adler’s literary works and also are plotting sequel adaptation The War Of The Roses: The Children based on the original divorce tome, as well as a Broadway version of War Of The Roses and a dramatic play adaptation in English and translated for Brazilian audiences. The producers are represented by Innovative Artists; Overmyer is repped by CAA.
