Dinty W. Moore Writers of the World Why I Write Warren Adler

Dinty W. Moore

To be honest, I began writing because I wanted attention. I was a precocious six-year-old, reading at a level above the other kids in first grade, and when I managed to write a funny story – it would have been no longer than three or four sentences back then – the freckled, pig-tailed girl in the desk beside mine showed interest. Then she laughed. Then she told me to write another one.

Now, about half-a-century later, I’m past the four-sentence mark, publishing not just stories but also books, and the rewards include both the spiritual and the monetary. But I’m not sure it is really all that different. It pleases me greatly when someone wants to read what I have written, and if they laugh, or their eyes sparkle, I feel that same good feeling inside.
