The Damaged Ship
Where are the leaders of yesteryear
That led us without fear
And captained our ship of state through heavy seas
We thought it was built to last through centuries
With keel still sound
Its sails are torn
The wheel is jammed and the rudder torn
Thick clouds obscure the guiding star
Ahead stands a high and blocking sandy bar
Where is the captain with the courage and skill,
The skipper who has the will
To keep the ship from sinking
Without blinking
And guide it to the open seas once more
And bring it safely to the welcoming shore
